Who is Macropass not for?

If you weigh your food and verify against labels, use MacroFactor or Cronometer. If you quit trackers because logging is a chore, or you already ask your AI what is in your food, Macropass is built for you. Macropass is also not for people who need micronutrients, want a free tier, want a barcode scanner, want streaks and challenges, or need a watch app or web dashboard. Each case below names the better app.

Updated September 2026

You weigh your food and verify against labels

Use MacroFactor or Cronometer. Every Macropass number is an AI estimate with stated assumptions and a calorie band, not a label-verified value; for someone who checks against packaging, that is a trust violation, not a feature. MacroFactor has "more than 1,360,000 verified items" checked "by other humans"; Cronometer has "more than 1.1 million verified foods" and states it is "not relying on AI-generated nutrition information".

You need vitamins, minerals or sodium

Use Cronometer. Macropass tracks six values per meal and per day: calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, and sugar. No vitamins, sodium or other micronutrients, by design. Cronometer tracks "95+ vitamins and minerals" in its free tier; SnapCalorie lists "100+ micronutrients" per meal.

You want a free tracker

Use MyFitnessPal, Cronometer, Lose It! or Yazio; each has a free tier with ads. Macropass has no free tier and no ad tier: 14-day free trial, then Macropass Pro at $9.99 per month or $49.99 per year. The trial is the free version.

You want a barcode scanner or a database to search

Use MyFitnessPal (the largest database, barcode in Premium), Cronometer (barcode free), or MacroFactor. Macropass is a macro tracker without a food database or barcode scanner: type a description, hold to talk, or snap a photo. If you eat mostly packaged foods with labels, a scanner is faster and more exact than a description.

You want streaks, badges and challenges

Use MyFitnessPal, Lose It! or Yazio. Macropass has no streaks, no badges, no challenges and no red failure screens; you mark a day done when you are finished, and a missed day is a gap, not a failure. The calm is the product, and people who are motivated by a flame icon will find it flat.

You want the app to adjust your targets for you

Use MacroFactor, whose core is adaptive coaching that adjusts targets from your logged weight and intake. Macropass proposes targets in onboarding and lets you set them per weekday, and its weight program tracks your trend against a goal, but it does not recompute your calories on its own.

You need a watch app, a web dashboard, or exercise and water tracking

Use MyFitnessPal (iOS, Apple Watch, Android, web), Lose It! or Cronometer (web). Macropass is available on iPhone and Android. No watch app, no web dashboard. Macropass does not have exercise or water tracking or social features. On a desktop, the only way in is through Claude or ChatGPT connected over MCP.

You want your AI assistant to estimate from photos inside the chat

Macropass will not do this. A connected assistant estimates with its own model. It never uses Macropass photo, voice or AI estimation, and it cannot change goals, save recipes, or export your data. Photo and voice logging stay inside the Macropass app. Your assistant can describe a photo you show it in text and log that; it cannot send the photo to Macropass.

Who is Macropass for, then?

Two people. The lapsed tracker who quit MyFitnessPal or Lose It! because the add-food form is a chore, and who wants a log that survives a busy day without shame mechanics. And the AI-native who already asks Claude or ChatGPT what is in their food and has hit the wall: the chat forgets. Macropass gives both a calorie estimate that shows its assumptions and a diary their assistant can write into. Start here: how Macropass works.

Fit questions

Is Macropass accurate enough for a cut or a competition prep?

If you weigh your food and verify against labels, use MacroFactor or Cronometer. Macropass estimates carry a stated band and assumptions; they are made to be checked and corrected, not verified against a scale.

Can I use Macropass without the AI?

You can repeat saved meals and edit every value by hand, but the product is describe-to-log. If you never want an estimate, a database tracker fits better.

Does Macropass have a community or social feed?

No. Macropass does not have social features, challenges or shared feeds.

Does Macropass count steps or workouts?

No. Macropass tracks food and weight only. Optional Apple Health sync writes meals and weigh-ins and reads body weight only.

Is Macropass suitable for a medical diet?

Macropass is a general wellness tool, not a medical device. Nutrition estimates may be incomplete or inaccurate and do not provide medical advice. Follow your clinician's guidance.

Just tell it what you ate.

Describe a meal, check the Macropass draft, confirm. Your day updates the moment it lands.
